Problem

For Adam and Sheila, avid scuba divers and world travelers, home needed to be a reflection of their global adventures. After living in their residence for over a decade, they looked to The Vibe Design Co. to translate their love of the natural world into their interior environment.

The residence presented significant functional and aesthetic hurdles that limited the potential of the home. The kitchen area suffered from a lack of cohesion, obstructed by a structural dining wall that isolated the kitchen from the rest of the dining areas. Meanwhile, the primary suite was trapped in a bygone era, defined by outdated carpeting, walls of expansive mirrors, and obsolete plumbing fixtures. Additionally, the existing closet footprint was inefficient, failing to maximize the available square footage.

Process

The design narrative was anchored by the client's distinctive countertop selection—a colorful, earthy stone with a topography-inspired movement that informed the home's entire palette. To maximize the potential of the existing footprint, we executed a comprehensive layout redesign of the public areas of the home. This included removing a structural wall to unify the kitchen, dining, and breakfast areas, creating a seamless flow for daily living and entertaining. In the primary suite, we overhauled an outdated layout (and removed existing carpet) to reimagine the bathroom as a sophisticated, high-functioning sanctuary that feels like a luxury spa.

The entire home received fresh paint, trim, flooring and lighting to support the structural changes.  A botanical wallpaper was added to the powder room to create some drama for guests and the central fireplace received a major facelift with Shou Sugi Ban wood siding from Nakamoto Forestry.

Results

A Sanctuary of Form and Function. The completed renovation stands as a testament to the power of intentional design. By harmonizing structural openness with an earthy, travel-inspired palette, the home now serves as both a grounding sanctuary and a source of daily inspiration. The reconfigured layout not only supports the rhythm of Adam and Sheila’s lives but elevates it, proving that a space can be as efficiently functional as it is aesthetically profound. The result is a home that no longer constrains them, but rather fuels their next adventure.
